Full course description
Orff Level 1:
This hands-on, active music-making course is meant to begin a music educator's journey into Orff-Schulwerk. Through singing, speech, playing of instruments, movement, and creative activities, such as improvisation and composition, course participants will deepen their understanding of the Orff-approach.
Students will:
- Engage in music-making through voice, barred instruments, recorder, and various untuned percussion instruments.
- Explore various movement concepts and their connections to music concepts.
- Identify key pedagogical concepts of the Orff-Schulwerk approach.
- Explore different ways to engage students in music-making activities through a process-oriented learning structure.
- Expand one's concept of how to organize the music learning environment to facilitate music and movement at the same time.
- Identify key resource materials to use within the Orff-inspired classroom.
- Arrange, compose, and improvise using elemental music and movement concepts.
